The Origin and History of Perfume

“The beauty of fragrance is that it speaks to your heart, … and hopefully someone else’s.” stated by Elizabeth Taylor and for the fact this is actually true. Nowadays, we carry varieties of remarkable Perfume as our daily essentials obviously to feel fresh and leave an incredible mark behind, but do we know the fascinating history of these perfume coming up straight from Egyptian culture.

The History of Perfume-

According to ancient historical sources, these perfumes and fragrances are involved in our earliest civilization of survival, though at that time, Perfumes are used for spiritual practices. Later on, people started initiating it as the cosmetic product, which rounds up as Modern perfumery: daily essentials in 19’s.

The 0rigin of Perfume-

The word Perfume derivate as a Latin word perfumas or perfumare, which is fusion of two words, “Per” and “fumes”, the word “per” means through, and “Fumas” means smoke; Which is counted as an ancient Egyptian establishment. In France, the burning smell of incense woods and other object are named as parfum.

Where did this Perfume come from?

The magical era of fragrances leads down straight from the ancient Egyptians around over 3000 years B.c. back than the Perfumes initiated its existence for participating in religious rituals. The Egyptian was also convinced by the fact that these fragrances are nothing more than the sweat of the God sun, which basically was a myth. The people of ancient Egypt civilization use wide variation of Perfumes in religious function like praying to god, during the burial of body, birth and weddings; they believed that the fragrance purifies the body from their own deeds.

Brief History-

The origin of Perfume came from ancient Egypt civilization associated with magical, fantasy, desire and pleasure. According to an old source, these all started up with a single woman from Mesopotamia named Tapputi who made the first Perfume by distilling the oil, flower and Acorus calamus and filtering them several times; it was then distributed among all of them. after that, In a rapid time, the fragrance signified its essential in the our daily livings. Back then, these fragrances were formed by edible oil, flowers, and animal fat and considered to interconnect living from humanity. They use to rub the Perfume to a dead body for establishing the relation between the dead one to all mighty and for their easy eternal life access. Some priest of Egypt also claimed the Perfume as a key to divinity and kept them as requisite for praying to God.

Later on, the fragrance made its way from ancient Egypt to Ancient Greek, where they develop these enchanted potions from some other source like saffron and incense woods and advanced the techniques to create the more concentrated and intense fragrance. They leave flowers squash in a vase full of incense oil and let it re-establish several times and later on filled up in some golden or silver bottle for an intense effect. From Ancient Greek, the fragrance revolves to Rome, where the people coated themselves with these solid scents to leave an appealing and pleasing effect. In Rome, these perfumes are considered to be a sign of wealth and fame; they have it distributed to the wealthy families only where they spray these enormous fragrances over guest’s arrival to maintain their odorous luxurious status.

With the immense popularity of the Perfume and the fact that these were now one of the essential part of livings, the Persians and the Arab systemize the production of the varieties of scents and expand them globally. An Arab chemist Al-Kindi also wrote a book called “Book of the Chemistry of Perfume and Distillations”, containing hundreds of prescription and procedure for making these incredible scents. Also, a Persian chemist found a way of making distinctive odour through a procedure of decocting oil from plants and herbs.

Then after the significant uses of the fragrance passed to France, where it covered vast fame; when Louis XIV’s came to rule and with his court started terming as ‘la cour parfumée ‘subjected because the king wears different Perfume every day.

And by the era passes away, the fascination of scent took a gripping and engaging way to our livelihood, along with the developing technologies and esteemed chemistry, the source and procedure of making modern Perfume raises to the next level; involving the invention of scented soap, scented sticks, scented candles and scented textiles. There has been a rapid growth in the production of Perfume in the 20th century, and every luxury brand is now trying to launch a new unique definition of the scent in the market. While the success of scent evolves in the 21st century, the generation is trying constantly to anticipates tremendous and remarkable innovation of fragrances in the next few years.
